Rental Policies

To rent a snowmobile you must be 18 years of age and present a valid driver’s license. DOT certified helmets are mandatory. A deposit of 50% of your total reservation is required at the time of the reservation. If you cancel more than 15 days before the date of rental, your deposit will be refunded less a $50 administrative fee. At less than 15 days, the deposit is forfeited. If conditions are deemed unsafe by our staff at your scheduled time, all deposits will be refunded. The balance is due at the time of rental. A credit card authorization of $5000 per unit is required for possible damages. If you need to arrive later than 30 minutes after your designated check-in time, you will need to call to make arrangements or forfeit your reservation. If snowmobiles are trailered off-site, the trailer must have ramps or tilt. **NO SNOWMOBILES WILL BE ALLOWED TO BE TRAILERED IN THE BED OF A PICK UP TRUCK! NO EXCEPTIONS!** The snowmobile rental policy and prices are subject to change without notice. 7.375% MN Sales Tax added to all rates.

Do you deliver and pickup snowmobiles? Yes we do! Delivery and pick-up can be arranged at the time of making the reservation. Let us know where you’re staying and we can calculate our delivery/pick-up rate for you. Each pair (2) of sleds has its own delivery charge and we can deliver up to 6 sleds per trip. ($60 minimum for both delivery & pick-up for, 23-hr minimum rental required, & both delivery & pick-up are ONLY scheduled in the mornings) MUST HAVE ADEQUATE ROOM FOR TRUCK & TRAILER TO ENTER, TURN AROUND, AND EXIT PROPERTY FOR DELIVERY!

Can the snowmobiles be trailed off-site? If snowmobiles are to be trailered off-site, the trailer must have ramps or tilt. **NO SNOWMOBILES WILL BE ALLOWED TO BE TRAILERED IN THE BED OF A PICK UP TRUCK! NO EXCEPTIONS!** Again, this is stated along with other very pertinent information under our Policies section above. A $100 charge for washing will be assessed for snowmobile rentals returned with excessive road salt and dirt from trailing.

What if damage occurs during my rental period? Guests are liable for any and all damages during your rental period. All guests will sign a liability waiver form at arrival time.

Do you rent DOT certified helmets? Why YES we do! For $25 + tax per helmet, you can feel secure knowing you will be protected from the elements all while obeying the law! Our helmets also come outfitted with the electric shield as it can help reduce fogging and ice on the shield more so than the traditional dual lens snowmobile shield. These helmets also come with the standard breath box or breath guard and a power cord.

Do you rent snowmobile apparel? No sorry we do not. We do sell Castle snowmobile mittens and gloves.

What should I wear when snowmobiling? Dress in layers. Bring ski-type wear, gloves, goggles (optional). Also, neck gator, scarves and or face mask (balaclava) are nice to have on cold days. Wool and fleece are the best types of material. Avoid cotton if you can! Our handlebars are heated although hand and foot warmers are nice to have along just in case. Don’t forget to pack your backpack with a camera, sunscreen and bottled water.

Do you offer guided trips? Yes we do! We need a 48 hour advanced notice required with a 2 sled minimum rental to schedule your trip. We offer FREE trail maps for your convenience and we highly recommend you download the Polaris Ride Command app onto your smartphone prior to arrival! The app acts as your very own GPS while riding the beautiful trails of Minnesota. You can't go wrong with this app!

How old do I have to be to rent a snowmobile? Renters must have a valid driver’s license with their picture on it and be at least 18 years old.

What is your company doing to help prevent the spread of Covid-19? The health and safety of our guests and our team are our top priority. We are following the government mandates and safety guidelines outlined by the CDC. In addition to our existing cleaning and sanitation protocol, we are taking extra precautions to maintain a clean and safe environment for everyone who comes to Lake Vermilion Houseboats to rent a snowmobile. - Helmets are cleaned and sanitized after each use and removed from circulation for up to 48 hours. - We’re offering a free Balaclava to each person renting our helmets to help prevent the spread of germs. - Hand sanitizer at the rental counter. - Machines disinfected after every use. - Counters, credit card machines, ATM machines sanitized after each use. - Physical distancing is required at all times (6 feet) when possible. - Release of liability agreement forms must be signed electronically before arrival. We ask that as our guest, you take responsibility for your own health and the health of those around you. If you are sick or experiencing any cold/flu related symptoms/illness please stay home. We kindly ask that you arrive for your reservation 15 minutes prior and only 1 family member come inside the office to check in. Remaining payment will be due at the time of arrival. If renting helmets, we mandate that you have a Balaclava on prior to trying on helmets. We also ask that you arrive dressed for your reservation. If others in your party need to rent helmets, they will be allowed to enter the building. ONLY 1 GROUP AT TIME IN OUR OFFICE! THANK YOU!
